Why I Write

Why I Write
People often ask me why I write. Why I spend so much time lost in stories, building worlds that don’t exist and shaping characters who sometimes feel more real than they should. The truth is, writing has always been more than a hobby for me. It’s a way of leaving something behind, of helping others, and of giving back to the community that made me who I am.
Writing to Leave a Legacy
I’ve always believed that stories are one of the few things that can outlive us. Long after we’re gone, our words can still inspire, entertain, and comfort someone we’ll never meet. That’s a kind of immortality, one built not on fame or recognition, but on connection. When I write, I think about the person who might pick up one of my books years from now and find something that stays with them. That’s the legacy I want to create.
Some of you may know about my journey with health issues from about 2017 to 2021 that nearly took my life. This moment is what pushed me forward to think about legacy and what I leave behind. Because of this I made the choice to publish my works and share some of my stories with the world.
Writing to Help Others Escape
The world can be stressful, unpredictable, and exhausting. I know what it feels like to need a break, to want to disappear into a world where the biggest problems can be solved in a few pages, and where hope still wins in the end. Books have always been my escape, and writing is my way of passing that gift on. If one of my stories helps someone forget their worries for a while or makes them feel less alone, then I’ve done something worthwhile.
For me, this has always been true about books and I'm proud to share that escape with everyone who picks up my books. We all need to escape the stresses of the world and find our happy place to disconnect and relax. I hope that I've give that safe place to some of you.
Writing to Give Back
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of others; readers, writers, and friends who believed in me even when I doubted myself. Writing gives me a way to give something back. Through storytelling, I can contribute to my community, share ideas, and hopefully inspire others to chase their own creative dreams. It’s about connection, about adding something meaningful to the shared fabric of who we are.
I've had the pleasure of giving back to my community through sharing my love of writing. As an author there are many opportunities to do this. I've enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experiences by teaching classes and being a panelist. Beyond that I've also been able to write in charity anthologies to do good for several different organizations.
The Heart of It All
At its core, I write because I believe stories matter. They remind us who we are, what we care about, and what we can still become. Writing is my way of leaving a mark. Not for recognition, but for the hope that my words might make someone’s day a little brighter or their world a little wider.
I hope that my writing can do a something for you, whether that be through giving you a place to escape the stresses of the world or by inspiring you to find you way to touch the world. If this is something that helps you as well, please let me know how it helps you in the comments below.
That’s why I write.
